# Run Claude Code from your JetBrains IDE on your company's accounts

One command installs Anthropic's Claude Code plugin in every JetBrains IDE on your machine and points it at `selan claude`. For how the pieces fit together, start at [the docs](https://selan.ai/docs).

Get started

## What do I need before I start?

An IntelliJ-based IDE you have opened at least once: IntelliJ IDEA, GoLand, WebStorm, PyCharm, Android Studio or another one from JetBrains. Claude Code itself must be installed, as for `selan claude`.

You also need `selan` 1.26.0 or later. If you have an older one, `selan update` replaces it in place. If you have no `selan` or no session yet, see [Install](https://selan.ai/docs#install) and [Sign in](https://selan.ai/docs#sign-in).

## How do I set it up?

Quit your IDEs, then run:

```bash
selan install jetbrains
```

For each IDE it finds, the newest version of each, it does two things:

- Installs Anthropic's **Claude Code \[Beta\]** plugin from the JetBrains Marketplace, unless the IDE already has it.
- Sets the plugin's Claude command to `selan claude`, by the full path of your `selan`.

It prints one line per IDE, saying what it did or why it skipped that one. Open the IDE afterwards and the plugin's button starts Claude Code through Selan. Running the command again is safe: an IDE already set up says so and is left as it is.

## What changes for a session started from the IDE?

Without this, the plugin runs a bare `claude`, which signs in as you rather than your company and never reaches Selan. With it, a session from the IDE is the same as one you start with `selan claude` in a terminal: your company's models, spend limits, connectors and secret scanning apply, and the usage is counted to you.

The plugin's own features keep working: diffs open in the IDE, and Claude sees your selection and the IDE's diagnostics. When a folder is [pinned to another company](https://selan.ai/docs/reference#accounts), the IDE connection follows the session into that company's Claude Code profile.

It sets `selan claude`, never `seland`, so Claude Code's permission prompts stay on for sessions started from the IDE.

Going further

## Why was one of my IDEs skipped?

- **It was running.** A running IDE writes its settings back when it quits, which would undo the change. Quit it and run `selan install jetbrains` again. The output names the `.lock` file that marks the IDE as running; if the IDE crashed and left it behind, delete it.
- **Its Claude command is your own.** A command you set yourself, such as a WSL wrapper or a script, is left alone and named in the output. `selan install jetbrains --force` replaces it.

## How do I undo it?

```bash
selan uninstall jetbrains
```

This puts the plugin's Claude command back to `claude` in every IDE where the value is the one Selan set. The plugin stays installed, since it works without Selan too; remove it from the IDE's plugin settings if you no longer want it.

## What does it not cover?

JetBrains AI Assistant has a Claude agent of its own. It is billed through JetBrains and cannot be routed through Selan, so this command leaves it alone. Only the Claude Code plugin runs on your company's accounts.
